A New Addition, Colds and Essential Oil

I am welcoming myself back to the blogging world, yet again.  It's been a while.
I would like to introduce my second child... Elinor.  She was born via c-section at 9 pounds 15 ounces and, unlike her sister who was exhausted from a long labor, screamed her way to my arms in the OR.  Other than a bad cold, both of the girls are doing well.  We are just trying to recover from this cold and then we'll be exploring the wonderful world of potty training with Maelle.  :-)  I will be posting an account of Elinor's birth on the blog for those who are interested.  I'll also post a little about Maelle's potty training too, when I have something to post.

This cold has been brutal.  Mostly because I'm still getting used to helping two sick children at once and they really are feeling yucky.  Sam has been very helpful around the house and he is adjusting to his role now that we have two kids.  He finds it much more challenging with a second kid's arrival because he ends up helping with Maelle more now now instead of just doing chores so I can breastfeed.  He loves it though.

We are using essential oils to help us with all the traditional cold symptoms, diaper rashes, calming small children at bedtime, mental clarity/headaches/exhaustion, and stay tuned... because as I discover more uses, I'll be sharing the information on the blog.  I am really appreciating essential oils.  Maelle has a sensitive respiratory system (she takes after my side of the family) and really needs the extra help with her breathing at night when she is sick.  I don't like medication but use it when I have to.  Essential oils have drastically cut down on our medication usage as well as how long the colds last.  Maelle has been hospitalized for breathing problems a couple times.  I'm praying Elinor doesn't have the same sensitivities... but she might... so we are doing it right.  While we sleep, we have the cold-air humidifier and an essential oil diffuser.  These two things together seem to be better than just a cold-air humidifier.

I'm going to go now and try to start writing Elinor's birth story while she sits in my lap.  God bless.

  1. Welcome back! :) A friend of mine here in Germany is studying something interesting - basically holistic health education from a Christian perspective. She is really into essential oils too...I'd be interested in learning more about all of that!

Hope you guys get over your colds soon!
